Some days, the world seems like a heavy, iron-grey curtain. A dreary, monotonous and cold wall that seems to crush everything beautiful. With ‘Kaleidoscope’, Bruther now present a psychedelic, colourful alternative to sober reality, on which the Austrian blues rockers celebrate the power of dreams and imagination. After establishing a solid reputation in recent years as one of the most thrilling live bands in the country, the eagerly awaited debut album from the Viennese formation is now being released.

‘Even as a little girl, I used to dream myself away into exciting fantasy worlds,’ recalls Bruther singer Irina Radovic. It is a childlike imagination that the musician now lives out together with her band. Inspired by the blues and psychedelic rock of the late 1960s and '70s, the combo, founded in 2019, creates its own unique sound cosmos, with which Bruther inspires a cross-generational audience of young and old rock fans alike. With the release of their debut EP ‘Bird In Hand Lane’, produced entirely on their own, the band attracted positive attention for the first time in 2021 and subsequently continued to build on their newcomer status bit by bit. After countless gigs and an acclaimed tour of Austria and Germany, Bruther now invite their listeners to take a look through their very own ‘Kaleidoscope’.

On their new album, Irina Radovic (vocals, lyrics), Julian Polak (guitar), Markus Dutka (bass), Michael Blassnig (drums) and Stephanie Weninger (keyboard) create a playful sound spectrum full of colour and imagination that fires the imagination and brightens up everyday life. A colourful, escapist safe space to escape reality for a few moments. ‘No matter where you look, the whole world is falling apart and dissolving before our eyes,’ says Irina. "Music has something connecting and hopeful about it, which is also clearly noticeable in our songs. Even if some of the pieces may have a heavy note, they still convey something very positive and confident. The new songs tell of my experiences and adventures. Arranging them together as a band has brought us closer together."

A compactness that is clearly audible on ‘Kaleidoscope’. Produced by Austrian Grammy winner Georg Luksch (Whitney Houston, Cher, Madonna), Bruther have authentically captured the infectious energy of their concerts. Handmade, down-to-earth and with a distinct live spirit, the whole band played in the same room during the recordings. ‘It was important for us to look each other in the eye during the recordings. To interact with each other and react to each other,’ explains guitarist Julian Polak. "Only then does this special synergy arise. We also want to make a statement in an AI-manipulated music world without rough edges, where everything is becoming more and more uniform and polished. We grew up with bands that were real and not the product of algorithms and elaborate post-production. It's precisely this human, imperfect quality that really defines art."

On their new album, Bruther combine influences from early rock and pop pioneers such as the Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd and Kate Bush tocreate a unique, contemporary signature sound – as the Austrians have already demonstrated with widely streamed advance outtakes such as ‘Lovin'’, ‘One More Song’ and the opulently arranged ‘Milky Way’, which generated a lot of airplay at home and abroad and was featured as ‘Song of the Day’ on Austrozone and ‘Rock Video of the Week’ on Newnoize. ‘The song is written from the perspective of an alien looking at our planet and humanity from the outside,’ frontwoman Irina continues. ‘A humanity that is heading straight for the abyss and the apocalypse. At the same time, however, we also have many good qualities. Maybe it's not too late for us after all.’

With ‘Kaleidoscope’, Bruther create a prism of many small stories. Stories about love and loss, loneliness and solidarity, disillusionment and hope. Each track has a different tone, such as the psychedelic rock single “Hello”, the bluesy love song ‘Hold Me Close’ or the gripping title track, which aptly summarises the message of the album. ‘When you look around here in Vienna, the predominant colours are beige, black and grey,’ says Irina. "I miss the colourfulness, the individuality, the liveliness. The '60s and '70s were colourful, diverse and wonderfully crazy. I love the Beatles for their imagination and their gift for making people dream. That's exactly what we want to achieve with this album!"

The new songs are framed by none other than musician, producer and cult graphic designer Klaus Voormann, who was responsible for the iconic cover of the Beatles' legendary ‘Revolver’ album and who also designed the artwork for “Kaleidoscope”. ‘Our aim is to stimulate people's imagination,’ concludes singer Irina. ‘It was also important to us to combine harmonious elements with rather unconventional chord progressions. The title “Kaleidoscope” fits perfectly with all the different colours and facets that together form a coherent picture.’ Like on the pop-rock song ‘The End,’ which was inspired by a quote from David Bowie. ‘In one of his songs, he asked what the world would be like without art. It would probably be a dark, unreal, bleak place. But maybe art is also something that outlasts humanity. A kind of legacy that reflects the full extent of our imagination.’

Bruther's debut album ‘Kaleidoscope’ will be released on 24th April 2026. A tour of Austria and Germany is planned for later this year, and the quintet will also be performing live at various summer festivals.
